For a security startup it usually answers one question, and it comes up earlier than founders expect: is this new capability a feature, a product, or a company?
Why naming everything is a trap#
Every name you introduce is a thing the buyer has to learn, and a security buyer evaluating you has a small budget for learning. A named product earns its name when it can be bought separately, sold separately, or asked for by name. Otherwise it is a feature with a marketing department, and it dilutes the one name you actually need them to remember.
Feature, product, or company?
It is one of the cheapest decisions to get right early and one of the most expensive to unpick later.
